Why Location Matters as Much as the Floor Plan

A custom home is built around how you live, and where you live shapes the style and feel of your home. Living in a close-knit suburb that's close to shopping and schools is a very different experience from settling down in a rural area with limited infrastructure.

Take as much time looking at the area you'll call home as you do the floor plans. See what your daily commute to work and school would be. If you enjoy being outdoors, look at access to parks and nature preserves. The point is to find out if the area will be a fit for your lifestyle before you've already started building.

Building a Custom Home in Middletown, Connecticut

Middletown sits along the Connecticut River in Middlesex County. It covers 42 square miles, ranging from open countryside to a walkable downtown along Main Street, where angled parking still lines the street in front of local shops. Wesleyan University sits in the middle of downtown, and its campus events and student population keep Main Street busy year-round.

Harbor Park runs along the Connecticut River at the edge of downtown, with a walking path and outdoor sculptures. Wadsworth Falls State Park is a short drive out of town, with almost 300 acres of trails and a waterfall on the Coginchaug River.

Sunwood's current Middletown community, Talia's Trail, is a small development of six home sites on a quiet extension of an existing road. It offers three Colonial-style floor plans and one Ranch-style. Here are the details of those homes:

Every lot connects to city water, sewer, and natural gas. Pricing starts at $675,000.

Building a Custom Home in Wallingford, Connecticut

Wallingford is near the hills of the Quinnipiac River Valley, where settlers arrived in 1670 and found land suited to farming and orchards. The town later grew into a center for silver hollowware and flatware manufacturing, and several of the old factory buildings still stand downtown. It sits in the Hartford-New Haven corridor, putting both cities within a short drive. Sunwood's own office is in Wallingford, on North Colony Street.

Downtown Wallingford has its own shops and restaurants. Community Lake Park offers shoreline fishing and connects to the Quinnipiac Linear Trail for walking or biking. Wheeler Family Traditions Golf Club is a public 18-hole course, and the Wallingford Amtrak station runs trains into New York and Boston.

Our current Wallingford community, Kyle Court, offers four floor plans:
